Hello jtayloranim,
Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities.
I see that you are locked out of your MacBook Pro. You've tried to reset the password using Terminal, but you still can't login. I'll be happy to help assist you with this.
You can also try to reset your password using your Apple ID or another admin account. Check out this support article: Change or reset the password of a macOS user account, specifically:
Regards.
Every time I log on to my MacBook Pro I'm presented with an all black screen with the gray white padlock and a place to put a password. I put every password I can think of but I cannot get back into my machine. Oct 25, 2008 I was updating the software on my macbook air for the 1st time (since it prompted me too) when the electricity went off. Now when I try to log in, I type my password and it 'thinks' in the blue screen for a sec and then goes back to the login/pw screen. I have an 11 inches Macbook air. My macbook air turns the screen off and logs me out anytime i move it slightly across my bed. What is xbox in windows 10. (it does not happen when i move it from bed and move it) even two inches moving turns the screen off and i am logged out as if i had closed the lid. I have not been able to find any answer so far.

https://free-a.mystrikingly.com/blog/monty-python-and-the-holy-grail-slot. Reset using your Apple ID
In some macOS versions, you can use your Apple ID to reset your login password. At the login screen, keep entering a password until you see a message saying that you can reset your password using Apple ID. If you don't see the message after three attempts, your account isn't set up to allow resetting with Apple ID.
- Click next to the Apple ID message, then follow the onscreen instructions to enter your Apple ID and create a new password. You'll be asked to restart when done.
- Log in with your new password.
- Determine whether to create a new login keychain.
